قال مكتب الأرصاد الجوية البريطاني، الجمعة، إن حرائق الغابات في أستراليا تسهم في واحدة من أكبر الزيادات السنوية في تركيز ثاني أكسيد الكربون في الغلاف الجوي للأرض منذ بدء تسجيل البيانات قبل أكثر من 60 عاما.
وبينما تعتبر انبعاثات الغازات المسببة لظاهرة الاحتباس الحراري الناتجة عن الأنشطة البشرية مسؤولة عن الجانب الأكبر من زيادة مستويات ثاني أكسيد الكربون، أدت حرائق الغابات في أستراليا إلى تفاقم المشكلة بشدة مما يبرز تأثير الكارثة على النظام المناخي العالمي.
وقال مكتب الأرصاد في بيان: "تشير التوقعات الخاصة بتركيز ثاني أكسيد الكربون في الغلاف الجوي إلى أن عام 2020 سيشهد إحدى أكبر الزيادات السنوية منذ بدء القياسات في مونا لوا في هاواي عام 1958".
وذكر البيان أنه من المتوقع أن يزيد تركيز ثاني أكسيد الكربون في الغلاف الجوي عن 417 جزءا في المليون في شهر مايو، حسبما نقلت "رويترز".
وتجاوزت تركيزات ثاني أكسيد الكربون في الغلاف الجوي للأرض بالفعل ما يعتبره العلماء حدودا آمنة.
وحذر الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة أنطونيو غوتيريش في قمة للمناخ بمدريد في ديسمبر الماضي من أن 400 جزء في المليون كانت يوما تعتبر "نقطة تحول لا يمكن تصورها".
