مرصد أوكايمدن يساهم في اكتشاف سديم جديد أطلق عليه اسم أطلس
تم مؤخرا الإعلان عن اكتشاف مذهل من طرف فريق من الفلكيين الهواة والمتخصصين، يتمثل في سديم من بقايا « سوبرنوفا » أطلق عليه اسم سديم أطلس (ATLAS NEBULA, G209.9-8.2)، تيمنا بجبال الأطلس حيث يوجد تلسكوب HAO بالمرصد الفلكي بأوكايمدن والذي اعتمد عليه أساسا في هذا الاكتشاف.
وقد أفادت الورقة البحثية التي نشرها الفريق أن البيانات التي ساهمت في هذا الاكتشاف أغلبها جمعت في مرصد أوكايمدن، وقد تطلب أكثر من 320 ساعة من التعريض الضوئي.
ووفقا للمصدر ذاته فإن هذا السديم الجديد « أطلس » هو ثاني أكبر سديم من بقايا « سوبرنوفا » تم اكتشافه وتحليله وتصويره وتأكيده من قبل فريق علماء الفلك الهواة والمحترفين، كما أن موقعه غير متوقع على الإطلاق، بحيث يقع في منتصف الطريق بين ميسييه 42 وسديم الوردة في كوكبة أوريون.
