ويندرج هذا اللقاء في إطار مشروع واسع للبحث والتنمية « تومالي » الذي تموله الوزارة الفيدرالية الألمانية للبيئة والأمن النووي الرامي إلى التقليص من آثار النفايات البحرية على قطاع السياحة بمنطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا وخاصة بالمغرب وتونس ومصر.
ويكتسي هذا اللقاء، بحسب المنظمين، أهمية كبيرة حيث يهدف إلى جمع الأطراف المعنية الرئيسية من أجل مناقشة ما تحقق من تقدم والتحديات التي تعترض تدبير النفايات البحرية المرتبطة بالسياحة، كما يطمح إلى النهوض بممارسات لتدبير النفايات أكثر استدامة بالقطاع السياحي مع الحفاظ على الأنظمة البحرية الأساسية بالمنطقة.
