ويعرف "تيرانوصور" بـ"الديناصور الطاغية"، أو "ملك السحالي"، وهو جنس من الديناصورات الثيروپودية جوفاء الذيل.
وأوضحت صحيفة "ديلي ميل" البريطانية، أن ديتريتش ليس عالم أحياء، لكنه مهتم بعصور الديناصورات ويعد بمثابة "صياد" يبحث عن هياكلها في مختلف أنحاء العالم، بصورة مستقلة.
وعثر "صياد الديناصورات" وشقيقه عام 2013، على هيكل التيرانوصور، الذي يرجع عمره لـ68 مليون سنة، في أرض خاصة في مونتانا بالولايات المتحدة.
وأعار ديتريتش هيكل الديناصور لجامعة كانساس قبل عامين، لكنه قرر الآن أن يبيع عظام الديناصور في مزاد على الموقع الإلكتروني، مما أثار مخاوف العلماء من الضرر الذي قد تتعرض له العظام، أو أنها قد لا تبقى متاحة لمزيد من الدراسات العلمية.
