هذه الدول تستهلك أكبر كميات من اللحوم في العالم

توجّه العديد من الغربيين في الآونة الأخيرة نحو خفض كميات اللحوم التي يتناولونها، أو حتى التخلي عن تناول اللحوم كلياً.

هذا التوجه يمثل جزءاً من محاولات يقوم بها الناس تهدف إلى تحسين صحتهم العامة وتقليل آثارهم السلبية على البيئة مراعاة حقوق الحيوانات.

فثلث البريطانيين يدّعون أنهم توقفوا عن تناول اللحوم كلياً أو قللوا من تناولها، بينما يقول ثلثا الأميركيين إنهم يتناولون الآن كميات أقل من نوع واحد من اللحوم على الأقل.

يعود الفضل لهذا التوجه، بشكل جزئي على الأقل، إلى مبادرات جماهيرية كحملات التخلي عن تناول اللحوم أيام الإثنين والتخلي عنها في شهر كانون الثاني (يناير) التي أطلق عليها اسم (Vegenuary) وفي ذات الوقت، يؤكد عدد من البرامج الوثائقية ودعاة التخلي عن تناول المنتجات الحيوانية على المنافع المترتبة على تناول كميات أقل من اللحوم.

ولكن هل كان لهذه المشاعر أثر حقيقي على أرض الواقع؟
