تفاجأ سكان منطقة "باي أيريا" في كاليفورنيا بظهور خط ضوء غريب خلفه جسم طائر، في سماء الولاية، لتبدأ التكهنات حول نوعية الجسم الحقيقي الذي "غزا" سماء الولاية.
وسارعت وكالات الأنباء الأميركية بتقصي الأمر، معتمدة على روايات شهود، وعوامل أخرى في المنطقة.
وظن الكثيرون أن الضوء الساطع هو صاروخ أميركي كان من المخطط إطلاقه للفضاء من قاعدة فان دير بيرغ القريبة، إلا أن إطلاق الصاروخ تم تأجيله.
وتحولت الأنظار للجسم الساطع في السماء، الذي أكد علماء يعملون في مرصد تابع لجامعة كاليفورنيا، أنه نيزك محترق مر في السماء.
وقال مرصد "ليك" التابع لجامعة كاليفورنيا، إن نيزكا ساطعا كان هو السبب وراء شريط الضوء الذي ظهر بعد غياب الشمس في الولاية.
وقال العلماء إن تحليق النيزك في السماء لم ينجم عنه أي أضرار.
