أكدت وسائل الإعلام الأوروبية وفاة الملاكم الإيطالي كريستيان داغيو، عن عمر يناهز 49 سنة، بعد تلقيه لكمات قوية وسقوطه بالضربة القاضية "K.O" أثناء منافسته على اللقب العالمي في رياضة المواي طاي خلال البطولة الجارية بالتايلاند.
وسقط كريستيان داغيو، بطل العالم سبع مرات في رياضة المواي طاي، في الجولة الأخيرة بعد تلقيه ثلاث لكمات قوية من منافسه التايلندي دون برانغ، فتم نقله إلى المستشفى.
وجاء داغيو إلى نزاله الأخير وفي حوزته 10 انتصارات في الوزن الثقيل، ولكن هذا التحدي الجديد لم يتمكن من إكماله كما كان يود، وكان واضحا من خلال ردة فعله أنه غير قادر على ضبط توازنه وحماية وجهه أمام منافسه، الذي أسقطه أرضا بعد توجيه ثلاث لكمات قوية إلى رأسه.
ورغم نقله إلى المستشفى والعناية الطبية التي خصصت له، فقد قضى يومين في الغيبوبة، وتوفي نتيجة الأضرار الخطيرة التي أصيب بها في دماغه (تلف دماغي).
