منظمة الصحة: لا تصدقوا شركات التبغ حول منتجات تكافح السرطان
قالت منظمة الصحة العالمية، يوم الجمعة، إن السجائر الإلكترونية وأجهزة تسخين التبغ لا تساعد على مكافحة السرطان، ونصحت المدخنين والحكومات بعدم الوثوق في مزاعم شركات السجائر بشأن أحدث منتجاتها.
وأورد "تقرير منظمة الصحة العالمية (السابع) حول وباء التبغ العالمي" أن منع تدخلات هذه الصناعة أمر بالغ الأهمية للحد من الضرر الناجم عن استهلاك التبغ.
وأضاف "تتمتع صناعة التبغ بتاريخ طويل من المعارضة المنظمة والعدائية والمتواصلة والمزودة بالموارد الكافية ضد إجراءات مكافحة التبغ".
وأوضح أنه "بينما توجد استراتيجيات معلنة وأخرى سرية… فكلها تهدف إلى إضعاف (جهود) مكافحة التبغ".
وأشار التقرير إلى أن الصناعة حاولت كسب الاحترام من خلال رسائل يشوبها التلاعب مثل الزعم بأن منتجاتها تأتي ضمن استراتيجية"الحد من الضرر"، على الرغم من أن السجائر ما زالت تمثل 97 في المئة من سوق التبغ العالمي.
وقال فيناياك براساد، مدير برنامج وحدة مكافحة التبغ بمنظمة الصحة العالمية، للصحفيين إن تطوير منتجات جديدة يهدف فقط إلى توسيع أسواق شركات التبغ.
ويجري الترويج للسجائر الإلكترونية، التي تحتوي على نيكوتين دون تبغ، كوسيلة للإقلاع عن التدخين. لكن براساد يضيف أنه لا يوجد دليل يبرر هذا الادعاء، فيما أظهرت أدلة من الولايات المتحدة أنها زادت من انتشار التدخين بين الشباب.
