تطوير عقار جديد لعلاج سرطان البروستاتا المتقدم
أفادت دراسة دولية، بأن عقارًا جديدًا أثبت فاعليته في علاج الرجال المصابين بسرطان البروستاتا المتقدم، وزاد من معدل بقاء المرضى على قيد الحياة.
الدراسة قادها باحثون بمعهد هانتسمان للسرطان وجامعة يوتا الأمريكية، ومركز فانكوفر للبروستاتا في كندا، ونشروا نتائجها، في العدد الأخير من دورية (New England Journal of Medicine) العلمية.
وأجرى الفريق دراسته لاكتشاف فاعلية عقار جديد يطلق عليه اسم "أبلوتاميد" (Apalutamide) الذي تم تطويره لعلاج سرطان البروستاتا المتقدم.
ولاختبار فاعلية العقار الجديد، وتقييم سلامته، تم إجراء تجربة سريرية شارك فيها أكثر من 1000 مريض بسرطان البروستاتا في 230 مؤسسة في جميع أنحاء العالم.
ووجد الباحثون أن المشاركين الذين تلقوا العلاج بالعقار الجديد شهدوا تحسنا كبيرا في معدلات البقاء على قيد الحياة بشكل عام، مع انخفاض بنسبة 33 ? في خطر الوفاة بالمرض، مقارنة بالمعايير القياسية للرعاية والعلاج من سرطان البروستاتا.
كما وجد الباحثون أن العقار الجديد أخر بشكل كبير من تقدم المرض، وقلل اعتماد المرضى على العلاج الكيماوي.
وقال الدكتور كيم تشي، قائد فريق البحث: "هذه دراسة كبيرة أظهرت لأول مرة، تحسنًا كبيرًا في معدلات البقاء على قيد الحياة بشكل عام لدى مرضى سرطان البروستاتا نتيجة تلقى العقار الجديد".
وأضاف أن "نتائج الدراسة قد تغير الطريقة التي يتم بها علاج الغالبية العظمى من المصابين بسرطان البروستاتا المتقدم، وتؤكد أهمية التجارب السريرية في تحسين رعاية مرضى السرطان".
وأشار تشي أنه "استنادًا إلى نتائج الدراسة، يتطلع الفريق إلى موافقة هيئة الغذاء والدواء الأمريكية على العقار الجديد".
وبحسب إحصائيات منظمة الصحة العالمية فإن سرطان البروستاتا، يعد ثاني أكثر السرطانات انتشارا بين الرجال بعد سرطان الرئة، على مستوى العالم، إذ أصاب أكثر من مليون شخص في العالم عام 2012 وحده، كما توفى أكثر 307 آلاف شخص بالمرض.
