الهالكان، اللذان كانا قيد حياتهما يبلغان من العمر 6 و9 سنوات، حاولا السباحة بهذا الصهريج؛ لكن المنية وافتهما بعدما غرق أحدهما وحاول الثاني إنقاذه دون جدوى ليغرقا معا، إلى حين اكتشاف ذلك من لدن والد أحدهما.
والى ذلك، وفور علمها بالحادثة هرعت السلطات المحلية في شخص قائد قيادة أهديل الى عين المكان، فيما قامت عناصر الوقاية المدنية بانتشال جثة القاصرين، فيما فتحت عناصر الدرك الملكي التابعة لسرية سيدي المختار التحقيق في ملابسات الواقعة.
