كشف رشيد الطالبي العالمي وزير الشباب والرياضة في تصريح رسمي له ان المملكة المغربية لن تضع ملف ترشحها لتعويض الكاميرون واحتضان كأس إفريقيا 2019، دون أن يقدم الأسباب وراء هذا القرار.
وتفاجأ متتبعو الشأن الكروي المغربي والإفريقي من القرار الرسمي للمملكة، خاصة وان الأغلبية الساحقة كانت تنتظر خلافة المغرب للكاميرون.
ورجح البعض ان يكون السبب وراء القرار راجع لتضامن المملكة مع دولة الكاميرون التي سحب منها التنظيم نظرا لعدم قدرتها على اتمام اشغال بناء الملاعب والفنادق، وكذلك لكون الأخبار التي راجت حول نية المسؤولين المغاربة في عرقلة تنظيم الكاميرون للحدث الإفريقي قصد تنظيمه بالمغرب.
