عادة ما يكون العطس بطريقة مستمرة علامة على أن الشخص يعاني من حساسية أو نزلة برد، لكن هذا الأمر بات مثيرا للشكوك في زمن كورونا، حيث صار الناس يتخوفون من أي شخص يعطس أمامهم.
وينتقل فيروس كورونا المستجد بشكل أساسي من خلال العطس أو السعال، حيث تصدر جزيئات رذاذية عن الشخص الذي عطس أو سعل، وتنتشر في الهواء لعدة ساعات.
ولهذا السبب، ينصح الخبراء الناس بالتزام التباعد الاجتماعي وارتداء الكمامة والابتعاد قدر الإمكان عن الأماكن المغلقة.
وفيما يخص العطس، فقد أصدر علماء الصحة مجموعة من التوجيهات التي يمكن اتباعها لاحتواء الرذاذ المنتشر، وبالتالي الحد من انتشار "كوفيد-19".
وأجابت صحيفة "واشنطن بوست" الأميركية عن هذا السؤال، بعدما تساءل آلاف القراء عن "آداب العطس في زمن كورونا".
وذكر المصدر أن تغطية العطس بمرفقينا هي في الواقع ظاهرة جديدة نسبيا، انتشرت بشكل أكبر بعد ظهور متلازمة الالتهاب التنفسي الحاد (سارس).
وقال خبراء إن هذه المناورة قد تكون مفيدة إلى حد ما في احتواء الرذاذ الصادر عن الأنف والحلق، لكنهم قدموا حلا أكثر فعالية.
وأوضحت إليانور موراي، الأستاذة المساعدة في علم الأوبئة في كلية الصحة العامة بجامعة بوسطن: "إنها ليست إجابة بسيطة بنعم أو لا.. الهدف هو إبقاء الجزيئات الخاصة بك بعيدة عن الآخرين".
وتابعت "بما أن ارتداء الكمامات صار إلزاميا في جل دول العالم، فإننا ننصح بالعطس في الكمامة".
وذكرت "العطس في الكمامة سيجعلها رطبة وأقل فعالية، لذلك نوصي بحمل قناع احتياطي معك عندما تكون في الأماكن العامة.. وبالتالي، حين تعطس، يمكنك وضع الكمامة المتسخة في حقيبتك واستبدالها بأخرى نظيفة".
كما ينصح خبراء آخرون بالعطس في منديل ورقي، حيث سيقوم هذا الأخير بنفس مهمة الكمامة، وهي منع الرذاذ من الانتشار في الهواء.
لكنهم يشددون على ضرورة التخلص من المنديل بطريقة آمنة وغسل اليدين جيدا، سواء باستخدام المعقم أو بالماء والصابون لمدة 20 ثانية على الأقل.
